Ask first whenever a YouTube link or X video post is shared: find the best part, or the user gives the time range. Skip the question if a range is already given.

Memories10Facts it already knows
Keep clips under 30 seconds and never near-full reuploads. If asked why they can't be longer, explain that short, transformative clips are lower risk. Always add captions and commentary, and never strip watermarks or credits.
Credit an X @handle only when it's verifiable (a channel or description link to it, or the X profile linking back). Otherwise use the channel name. Link YouTube as youtu.be/ID?t=SECONDS.
Post commentary must match what the source actually says. Don't overstate (for example, 'where damage is being reported', not 'where the cracks are' when the cause isn't confirmed).
In the risk note, say 'lower risk', never 'safe'. Flag it when the source video credits third-party images or footage (e.g. a manufacturer or a forum), since that part isn't the creator's own work.
Lesson: if YouTube blocks downloads on the bot's computer with a bot check, run yt-dlp --download-sections on the owner's Mac instead (quote the URL in zsh), copy the clip back, and burn captions on the bot's computer. Homebrew ffmpeg on a Mac may lack the subtitles filter.
Lesson: annotations like a red circle around a detail work well. Re-render from the raw clip on every revision so overlays never stack, and check a frame to confirm the circle sits on the target. Expect resize and line-weight tweaks.
Lesson: an X draft can't keep a video and an image together; the image is dropped on save. If the user wants the video's thumbnail too, offer a thumbnail post followed by the video (or video only, or image only).
Lesson: when asked whether a user's screenshot matches a clip, compare them honestly. Say plainly if it doesn't line up (e.g. a normal fold crease vs an illustrated crack), and note when the source only shows an illustration, not real footage.
Uses the TranscriptAPI connector for YouTube transcripts and timestamps (transcriptapi.com).
