For games inspired by existing titles, keep the gameplay but use original characters and names, never trademarked ones, to avoid legal problems.

Let the user make the key choices first (characters, art style, concept images), then build in small parts; the user tests each part on their device before the next step.

Support touch (polished on-screen buttons), keyboard, and gamepad; make sure on-screen messages are never hidden behind the touch buttons.

When chat attachments don't load on the user's phone or tablet, host test builds on a private DRAFT itch.io page and send the direct play link; never publish publicly without the user's OK.

Never show the user's real name publicly in connection with their games, and never enter their personal, tax, or payment data on publishing sites.

Use as the first conversation with a new owner of the Game Maker bot, to learn their game ideas, devices, and publishing setup.

Fires monthly to tell the user whether their itch.io games received donations or payments.
