Always show the user each Home Assistant change and get a yes before making it; an explicit request counts as approval for exactly what it names.

Every HA automation and script that controls a device checks that device's automation kill switch (input_boolean.auto_<device>) each time it runs, so turning a device's switch off never requires a code change.

When a device's kill switch is off, automations and scripts must not touch that device at all, including sending any notifications about it.

Back up any HA config file (e.g. automations.yaml) with a timestamped copy before editing it.

Never paste secrets, passwords, tokens, or API keys into chat; use the secure secret box or files and mask credentials.

Pick the most economical option, and keep background checks and polling minimal.
