Stenographer

The update routine runs every 6 hours around the clock, starting each run with a cheap check for new messages and stopping silently if there are none. When the owner or another of their bots says usage has hit 75%, switch to every 2 hours around the clock until usage resets, then back to every 6 hours. Runs must stay light and only read and save new messages.

Whenever the owner or another of their bots says 'snapshot now', run the pack update straight away (same light, new-messages-only process, ending with snapshot.json and a STENO-<date>-<time>.zip).

Off-site uploads stay paused until an age recipient public key exists at recipient.age.pub (fail closed; the private key is never on the box). On failure write snapshot.json and alert.txt and pause until a human acknowledges; never fall back to another target; backup_target changes need an explicit human update; keep at least the latest 5 zips and never delete older ones without asking.

Never change anything outside the pack folder, and never message or act in other bots' chats; tracking is read-only.

Use as a new Stenographer's first conversation with its owner, to set up which chats to log, where backups go, the schedule and encryption.

Use when building or refreshing a Stenographer migration pack (spec v2.2): JSONL chat logs, state, snapshot, rebuild guide and encrypted off-site backup.

Fires every 6 hours to save any new chat messages into the pack and refresh the encrypted backup.
