Add plugins to a Grok Bot: connect apps, check permissions, fix a stuck sign-in
Templates on this site list plugins; x.ai calls the same thing connected apps. This guide shows how to connect one, what it is allowed to do, what the status labels mean and what to do when Google or your admin blocks it. It is checked against docs.x.ai on 2026-10-31.

The playbook
What you will get. Your bot connected to the apps it needs, with a read-only task to prove each connection works and a rule for what it may do without asking. For a list of templates by plugin, see Best Grok Bot Plugins and Integrations.
Prerequisites.
- A working Grok Bot account and a Bot (see Import and customize a Grok Bot template).
- The login for each app you want to connect. If it is a company Google account, check whether your Workspace admin has approved Grok (step 8).
- For X: X API credits on your X developer account if you want more than public reading.
Which plugin first? In our directory data, as of 2026-10-31, Gmail is listed by 749 public, active templates, X by 412, Google Calendar by 369, Google Drive by 310, Notion by 200 and Slack by 156. If you are unsure, begin with the one the template depends on most, read-only if possible, and add the rest later.
What each app can do. As of 2026-10-31, per Computer and apps, a connected app can never exceed the access of the account you authorize:
- Gmail: searches, reads, drafts, sends and labels mail in one connected mailbox at a time; to switch mailboxes, disconnect the current one first.
- Google Calendar: reads visible calendars, creates and updates events on editable calendars, checks free time and responds to invitations. It cannot change Google Meet settings or add a Zoom link.
- Google Sheets: reads and edits cells in sheets the account can edit; viewer-shared files stay view-only, and Google Drive handles finding files.
- Slack: posts as the connected Slack user, only in channels that user can post in. Other workspaces are connected separately.
- X: needs X API credits on your X developer account. Bots can search and read public X content without connecting; connecting adds DMs, bookmarks and similar features.
Where this guide stops. We connected nothing for this draft. Every step is from x.ai documentation and the status labels are quoted from it. Anything the page did not say is marked untested.
Troubleshooting.
- The sign-in window stalls. Choose Reconnect on the app or Reopen on the in-chat card, then finish the login in your browser.
- The app shows Needs auth or Disconnected. Open the app and choose Authenticate (Authorize on a phone).
- It says Disabled by team admin. Your team's connector policy blocks it; ask your admin.
- Gmail uses the wrong mailbox. Only one mailbox is connected at a time. Disconnect the current one, then connect the other.
- Zoom error 4700 (Invalid redirect). Happens when authorizing Zoom from the desktop app. The documentation lists no workaround yet.
- SharePoint AADSTS50011 (redirect URI mismatch). The documented cause is a team admin using Application-level permissions. Choose Connect team or Reconnect, select Delegated permissions, enter your Microsoft tenant ID and sign in; a Microsoft admin usually has to consent once. The message 'This team does not have the SharePoint integration' means the admin has not finished that sign-in.
- 1Password. Connect it from Connect apps under Password Managers. Only logins in your Personal (or Family's Private) vault are available, and an admin may need to turn on access requests.
- The app I want is not listed. The documentation says Bots use connected apps where available and the browser otherwise, though some sites block automation or need a human step. Untested.
Sources and dates. Checked on 2026-10-31 against docs.x.ai/grok-bot/computer-and-apps, /security and /get-started, plus GBD integration data from the same date. Re-check after 2026-11-30, or sooner if xAI changes plans or apps. See also Best Grok Bot Plugins and Integrations.
Connect and check a plugin in 9 steps
List the apps the template needs
Open the template's page here and read its plugin list, then keep only the ones needed for the first week. Fewer connections mean less that can go wrong and less access to review. Planning step, not run by us.
Open Connect apps
On desktop open Connect apps from the sidebar, or follow a Connect card the Bot shows in chat. On mobile, tap your avatar in the top left and choose Connect apps. You can also ask a Bot to add an app, such as Linear; it shows a Connect card if you need to sign in. Source: Computer and apps.
Search for the app and add it
Search for the app by name and add it. When prompted to Authorize or Authenticate, finish the provider's login in your browser. If a sign-in stalls, choose Reconnect on the app, or Reopen on the in-chat card.
Confirm the status label
The app should appear under Installed. The documentation lists these labels: Installed means the app is installed, which does not mean you are signed in; Needs auth or Disconnected means open the app and choose Authenticate (Authorize on a phone); Disabled by team admin means your team's connector policy blocks the app and you should ask your admin to enable it (blocking the app does not block the service's website). We could not confirm other labels such as Connected, so do not rely on them.
Attach the app to a task
In chat type @ to attach the app to the request, for example a read-only question such as 'What is on my calendar tomorrow?' A read-only task proves the sign-in works without changing anything. Source: Computer and apps.
Set approval rules for anything that writes
Bots hold the same access as the member, so decide per app: drafts only for Gmail, no posting in shared Slack channels, no event invitations without a look. An approval card shows the proposed action and offers Allow once, Always allow or Deny. Prefer Allow once until you trust the result; Always allow can save a matching rule. Source: Security.
Check where the app's data goes (admins)
Connected apps are reached from x.ai's servers, so a team's network allowlist does not cover them by default. Admins can set the network policy on the Grok Bot dashboard; the Apply to MCP servers switch is off by default, and network controls and the MCP allowlist are Enterprise-only. Source: Security. Individuals can skip this step.
If Google says your admin needs to review Grok
The message 'Your admin needs to review Grok' means Grok is not yet approved for your Workspace. Request access if offered and wait for approval before choosing Authorize again. An admin can approve it in the Google Admin console under Security, Access and data control, API controls, App access control, Manage third-party app access, adding Grok (or its client ID) and setting it to Trusted. 'Access blocked' means Google refused the sign-in; personal Gmail accounts do not need an admin, company accounts need the admin to trust Grok, and changing browsers or reconnecting will not clear it. Source: Computer and apps. Untested.
Disconnect what you stop using
When a bot is retired, remove its connected apps and pause or delete its routines. Deleting a Bot does not remove computer files or browser sessions, so sign out of websites and delete sensitive files separately. Source: Security.
