Window company: janky lead finder that keeps a human in the loop
Paid leads cost the same for good and bad. The owner pointed AI at their own install business instead: open sources only, drafts only, human in the loop on purpose. After about six weeks they report 1–6 real requests a day at roughly the monthly cost of one German paid lead.
The playbook
Who
Main business: windows (Portugal / Germany). Side project: voice agents for hotels and salons (9 paying clients), but cold email and outbound voice-agent sales were weak. Installation crews sat idle most of the month (about 3–4 installs/month). In Germany they used to buy leads at €30–60 each — same price for good and bad — with maybe one real client per month.
What they built
They monitor ~200 Facebook groups every 15 minutes, plus Telegram and WhatsApp chats. A keyword filter in six languages feeds an LLM that classifies whether a post is a lead, service, location, and urgency. Matches become a Telegram card with a link to the post plus a draft comment and draft DM in the post’s language. The system knows which groups forbid business comments and says “DM only.”
HITL and scope (on purpose)
Nothing is sent automatically — the owner reads, edits, and sends. Paid lead platforms are excluded; open sources only. Version 1 was an old Android phone with a macro scrolling Facebook overnight and sending screenshots to a server.
Reported result (~6 weeks)
1–6 real requests per day, steady new clients, running cost about the price of one German paid lead per month. They are thinking about packaging the pattern for other local service businesses.
Lessons
- Open-source group mining can beat flat-rate paid leads when quality varies wildly.
- Keep outbound as drafts — human-in-the-loop is the product, not a temporary crutch.
- Respect group rules (DM-only vs public reply) and platform terms; automation can get accounts banned.
Case facts are from u/ArseniyZ83’s post on r/AI_Agents (2026-11-04, archive). Wording on this page is rearranged for a case layout; claims are the author’s, not Grok Bots Directory’s verification. Human-in-the-loop outbound is intentional; paid lead platforms were excluded.
Copy the pattern without auto-spamming
Drop paid leads from the design
Decide up front that the system mines open groups and chats only. Do not rebuild a paid-lead optimizer.
Monitor + classify, don’t blast
Poll public groups and chats on a schedule. Use keywords plus an LLM to score lead, service, location, and urgency before anyone sees a card.
Ship Telegram cards with drafts
Each alert should include the source link, a draft comment, a draft DM in the post’s language, and a note when the group is DM-only.
Keep send behind a human
Read, edit, then send. Never auto-post comments or DMs. HITL is intentional.
Mind platform rules and ToS
Scraping or macros can violate Facebook, WhatsApp, or Telegram terms and get accounts banned. Prefer official APIs and approve-before-send workflows where possible.
Measure cost vs one paid lead
Track real requests per day and monthly run cost against what you used to pay per lead. Revisit after a few weeks before packaging as a product.
